Multi-sport: Hiking, mountain biking and kayaking all around Albania! (16 d / 15 n)

In this journey you will cross the Komani Lake by Ferry, hike 3 days in the Albanian Alps.

Then you will go in the South to visit the Ohrid Lake and cross the Gramozi Mountain before joining the Riviera to kayak.

A trip for athletes who want to discover Albania in an original way!



Jour 1

Arrival in Tirana


Once arrived at the airport, an Ecotour Albania agent will be there waiting to take you to your hotel.

Jour 2

Koman lake and Valbone Valley

Valbona, Koman

After an early start, we will head towards the valley of Valbone in the Albanian Alps. 

Firstly we will cross the Komani Lake in ferry. This will be a great experience, a journey in the heart of nature with magnificent landscapes compared to the Norwegian fjords. After a 2:30 – 3 hours trip we will reach Valbona Valley, where we will have the opportunity to get to know the inhabitants with whom we will have dinner.

Jour 3

Sheepfold of Rama


During this day, we head towards the sheepfold of Rama which is at an altitude of 1800 m. Through this hike of about 3:30/ 4h, we will again be immersed in nature, in the heart of the mountains of Albania. Once there (as a reward to our efforts!) we will have the opportunity to taste the fresh products of the sheep while admiring the beautiful landscape of Albanian Alps. The rest of your day is free at your disposal.

Jour 4

Hiking toward Theth

Valbona, Theth

"I think any place in the world trodden by man never gave me a grandiose feeling of isolation" Thus Edith Durham (British journalist) described Theth in the 1900s.

Located in the heart of the Albanian Alps, the National Park covers nearly 2,300 hectares.

We start today’s hike at the valbone valley to the village of Theth, passing through the Valbona's neck. This walk of about 6-7 hours in a landscape with postcard –like views will leave you speechless! During your hike you will be accompanied by a mule, which will carry your luggage (and children).

Jour 5

Discovery of the canyons and waterfall of Theth


What’s on today? More fantastic landscapes. Today we will discover Theth and its surroundings. After visiting the village of traditional stone houses full of charm and the tower of isolation of the old vendetta, we will continue our discovery of this region with its canyons and waterfall, which created a natural water source called "the blue eye", natural sites of great beauty.

Jour 6

Visit of the capital


You then leave the mountains to return to visit Tirana and the Albanian capital.

City since 1614 and the capital of Albania since 1920, Tirana is the country's main cultural hub. You will be able to discover a city famous for the colourful facades of its buildings and the harmony between the various religions in the country.

The visit of the National Museum located on Skanderbeg Square will be a nice introduction to the rich Albanian history !


Close to this square, we will be able to see the mosque "Et'hem Bey", which has been preserved for its historical value during the communist era, the opera, the clock tower and the palace of culture. We will then discover the superb Orthodox Cathedral as well as the Catholic Cathedral.

You will also see the pyramid (the Museum of the former dictator, Enver Hoxha) and, weather permitting, you will take a walk in the park of the Artificial Lake of Tirana.

In the evening we recommend you to enjoy the night life of the capital in the district of Blok : Once reserved for the communist nomenklatura is now a fancy neighborhood and the place where you can have a drink or to find a good restaurant to relax after your journey in the north.

Jour 7

Lin to Tushemisht (mountain biking)


Then we will approach the Lake Ohrid, on the border with Montenegro.

We will join the picturesque village of Lin. A fishing village at the foot of a hill on a peninsula. By going after the village, you will then enjoy the scenery and the view on the lake.

Then we’ll go to the village of Tushemisht by bike. This place served as a natural setting for the filming of some of the greatest movies of our country. The decor is so rich and varied that Unesco has added this lake (one of the oldest in the world) to the World Heritage List in 1979 for its fauna and flora. The lake and mountains on the horizon offer a breathtaking view!

Jour 8

Korça to Voskopoja (mountain biking)

Voskopoja, Korça

We will then visit "Korca the French". Why French ? Because the presence of French troops has allowed the creation of a symbolic, although short-lived autonomous republic in the First World War. Moreover, this town has welcomed the first French school of the country from 1917 to 1939. Its population is said to be proud and well-educated, and the town is often nicknamed "little Paris of Albania", a city of art, love and romanticism. You will be able to see the medieval national museum and its great collection of Orthodox icons, the WWII French cemetery, and the main monument: the Orthodox Cathedral.

Then we will go by bike to the village of Voskopoja. Once a very developed city, Voskopoja is now a charming small village of 500 inhabitants. Within its cobbled streets, you can discover its beautiful Orthodox churches.

Jour 9

The Gramoz mountain and the village of Rehove (Hiking)

Today we will leave our bike aside. We are going to visit the village of Rehove and have a hike in the mountain of Gramoz
This is a small town well known for its expertise in food. You will have the opportunity to spend a nice time with its habitants and spend a night in this village.

Jour 10

Farm of Sotira (Mountain Biking)

One more mountain biking day for your trip to Albania. After 15 km by bike we will reach the farm of Sotira. This farm is a very peaceful place, where you can find yourself in the heart of the nature, enjoying grilled local products and the famous raki. Different actvities like horse riding and hiking are offered.

Jour 11

The city of Gjirokastra and the beach of Ksamil

Riviera, Gjirokastër

Today we will join the city of Gjirokaster. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005, this city is full of typical neighborhoods and shaded terraces, but is home especially the ethnographic museum and its citadel, witnesses of a large section of the History of Albania. Gjirokastra has retained its picturesque and typical architecture of ancient Albanian houses

Then we will go on the Albanian Riviera! We will go to the south of the country, on the Ksamil beach, the only sandy beach in the Riviera. Renowned for its turquoise water and its four islands, Ksamil Albanian beach faces the Greek island of Corfu. Even though it’s small island are reachable by swimming, paddle boats can be hired to explore the nearby area. 

In the evening you will reach Saranda, a coastal city where you can have a good time by the sea side and enjoy a fresh fish dish by the sea.

Jour 12

The site of Butrint and the village of Qeparo (kayak)

Qeparo, Butrint

In the morning, we will then visit the site of Butrint, on the Ionian Coast. Butrint is an ancient Greek city on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1992. You will discover a historic landmark, an open ancient city testifying of centuries of human occupation.

Then, we will take the kayaks along the Ionian coast to the village of Qeparo. This village is considered as one of the finest in the Albanian Riviera. You will visit the village and from up there you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the coast. You will leave the village to spend the night by the seaside.

Jour 13

The fortress of Ali Pasha and beach of Jale


For this last day of kayaking, you will go to the bay of Porto Palermo. After about 3 hours on the sea, you reach this sublime bay where stands the fortress of Ali Pasha. Surrounded by lush vegetation, you can visit this abandoned building to discover a octagonal room topped by a dome.

You will go on with the discovery of the Riviera by sea! After 40 minutes paddling, you will reach the beautiful beach of Jali. You can stop at other creeks or bays on your way to the Livadhi Beach (about 2 hours of kayak). In the evening, a car or minibus will pick you up on this beach so you can reach the small town of Himara.

Jour 14

The Llogara National Park (hiking)

Llogara Park

Located in the upper part of the Dukati Valley, Llogara National Park of 1,000 hectares consists mainly of coniferous forests, which provides an interesting contrast to the Mediterranean landscapes that are found nearby. During the day and a hike you will discover unforgettable landscapes along the Riviera, between sea and mountains. You can enjoy a view of the turquoise Ionian Sea and the Karaburuni peninsula. You can also reach the neck of Cesar by a hike of 20 minutes.

Jour 15

Back in Tirana


You will return to Tirana where you can visit the places you couldn't  during your previous days in the capital and you can also enjoy the sunny weather of Tirana.

This is the last day of your trip to Albania!
